Running Routes

Here are some of our favorite places to run on LI!

Long Beach Boardwalk- Long Beach, NY

A 2.2 mile wooden boardwalk facing the Atlantic Ocean located between Neptune Boulevard and New York Avenue. A scenic route with frequent water fountains and restrooms on the boardwalk for your running convenience (please note they do turn the fountains off in the winter). There are also exercise stations located along the length of the boardwalk for pull-ups, push ups, dips, and more. Just make sure you don’t run in the middle lane that is meant for bikes and look both ways before you cross it.

Norman J Levy Park- Merrick, NY

A 52 acre man-made park conveniently located off the Meadowbrook Parkway at Exit M9. The park includes over 3 miles of trails, 18 exercise stations, a fishing pier, and a kayak launch. Serving as a plant and wildlife sanctuary, it is both a beautiful and tranquil spot for your exercise. Our favorite part of the park is the “Norm hill” that will take you to the top of the park and it is perfect for hill repeats. At the top you have a 360* view including the NYC skyline, Jones Beach theater, and more. There is one restroom that I know of at the base of the hill and located right beside the fishing pier.

Michael J Tully Park- New Hyde Park, NY

Tully Park has become a home for my track workouts. On the grounds includes tennis courts, baseball fields, playgrounds, basketball courts, and a track. The track is a standard 400m track that is well maintain and never over crowded. Highly recommended when you need to get in speed work.

Massapequa Preserve- Massapequa, NY

This place is a hidden gem in the middle of Massapequa. Nestled between the Southern State and Sunrise Highway, you go from the bustle of Nassau County to feeling like you are hidden in the woods. The paved trail is perfect for running, walking, or biking and is about 3 miles in length. You can take the same trail and loop it to a dirt path for more of a trail adventure. Heading north, you can adventure over the parkway along the Bethpage bikeway for some added mileage. Quiet during the weekdays, but on sunny weekend days lots of people come out- you can even go fishing!

Hendrickson Park- Valley Stream, NY

Tucked just off of Merrick Road, this little loop is great for a quick run! There are two loops within the park; one is about a mile in length and the larger loop is just about 1.5 miles. You can run, walk, or bike here and to increase your mileage venture out to Valley Stream State Park which is just across the street.

Jones Beach Boardwalk- Wantagh, NY

Just parallel to the ocean is the Jones Beach Boardwalk which runs all the way from Field 6 down to Field 1. Running out and back along the boardwalk will cover 4 miles which are marked along the way. Water fountains are placed on the boardwalk/walkway to keep your hydrated on hot, summer mornings! Midweek this is a great place to go for a run because the boardwalk isn’t too crowded. During the weekend, this is not a place to try and run a timed mile because the beaches fill up with patrons.

Jones Beach Bikeway/ Ocean Parkway Coastal Greenway- Merrick/Massapequa, NY

This is the trail that runs along the Wantagh Parkway! Starting in Cedar Creek Park in Merrick, you can hop right on the trail and ride down to Jones Beach. This will take you to the same lot as the Nikon Theater. If you continue along the trail, it changes to Ocean Parkway and you can take it all the way to Tobay Beach. The trail length is about 9 miles from point to point. As you run or ride along, you will see amazing views of the water!
